about
You know that deflated feeling when you're super upset about something, and your probably-well-meaning friend or partner tries to make you feel better by saying something like, "oh, it's not that bad," rather than just empathizing with you?
Us too.
It Could Be Worse is about this very feeling. Not so much in a personal relationship context, but more in a societal-ills kind of context. What does it look like when we are complacent with the status quo and don't try to right the wrongs in the world? What do we do when people tell us it's fine because, well, "it could be worse?" We ask all these existential questions, and of course, we offer no answers.
So naturally, we wrote a pop song about it.
lyrics
It could be worse, they said
Laid up in a hearse and dead
Heroes have gone and bled,
So could you look on the bright side?
It could be worse, you guys
Our heroes could all tell lies,
One of them could up and die,
So could you look on the bright side?
What bright side is the right side
What right side, is the bright side
What side is the right bright side,
And is it only right for you?
Shake off the dust they said,
Why can’t you be content (+octave up)
You’re lucky to be clothed and fed,
So could you look on the bright side
Why fix it if it ain’t broke
As long as you stay afloat (+octave up)
if you’re not the one they choke
Could you just look on the bright side?
Open up your eyes to the other side
Look and you can see from another’s eyes
The world turns upside down
And right around again
Open up your eyes to the other side
Look and you can see from another’s eyes
The world turns upside down
And right around again
What bright side is the right side
What right side, is the bright side
What side is the right bright side,
And is it only right for you?
What bright side is the right side
What right side, is the bright side
What side is the right bright side,
And is it only right for you?
It could be worse, they said
Laid up in a hearse and dead
Heroes have gone and bled,
So could you look on the bright side?
